Cedars Nursing Home

The architect had very specific requirements relating to heat output from the underfloor heating system. The customer wanted the underfloor heating system to provide a design room temperature of 23°c. His concern was driven by the use of an air source heat pump delivering low water temperatures 30°-35°c to provide his client with a safe, super sustainable and comfortable living environment for the elderly residents.

The UFH Supply design department in Underfloor Heating York were able to allay his doubts by providing all relevant technical data at the design stage, and demonstrate how the underfloor heating system would exceed his expectations. A concern for the project was that the client had opted for a thick, luxurious carpet floor finish, which acted as an insulator, dulling the performance of the underfloor heating system.

Detailed design and calculation showed the client that the desired room temperature was achievable with the underfloor heating system, even with such a low flow temperature, high design room temperature and troublesome floor finishes. We achieved the client’s criteria by installing a high density underfloor heating system throughout the care home.

This almost doubled the underfloor heating materials required for the project, as well as installation time, but given the energy saving over the life of the system, the extra outlay of underfloor heating equipment and
manpower was well worth it.

Every room was independently controlled giving the residents of the care home a perfect underfloor heating experience. Each room was fitted with Heatmiser DT wall mounted room stats, making the control of the underfloor heating system east. Every bathroom was fitted with Heatmiser wall stats with air sensors, as to comply with safety regulations. The Heatmiser DT wall stats are specifically designed for warm water underfloor heating, making them perfect for this project.
