Floor Constructions

UFH Floor ConstructionsThe specialised needs of floor heating systems shown below summarise the minimum requirements for satisfactory UFH installation, and are intended to be a guide only.

(a) Thermal Insulation The architect is responsible for ensuring that the Floor Slab Thermal Resistance used in the construction complies with Building Regulations, the UFH System Designer and Installer have a duty of care to ensure the correct information about the thermal qualities of the proposed UFH system is provided to the Architect. The Building Regulations require that all ground floors be thermally insulated to provide not less than U-value + 0.25 W/m2K. Additional thermal insulation may be requires if the UFH system is supplied with a fixed R-value Castellated (or flat) Insulation board as a component.

(b) Room Perimeter Edge Isolation Foam This foam is required to absorb expansion of heated screeds and to absorb noise. There must be full continuity of this foam through doorways in order to comply with Building Requirements.

(c) System Vapour Check Films These are not and must not be construed as Damp-Proof membranes – they are to prevent or inhibit the migration of water during the construction period only. This type of VCF should also be considered to be mandatory below a wood floor finish to prevent vapour damage during heating.

(d) UFH Pipework Systems See ....... for more information on typical solid floor and wood floor system installation work.
